What is Botox, and how doesit work?

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) is a product of the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, and in small diluted doses can cause muscle relaxation. When botox is injected into the desired muscle, the toxin blocks the complexes at the neuromuscular junction from releasing the neurotransmitters to make the muscle contract. Since the muscle is relaxed and is unable to contract, this reduces the appearance of unwanted wrinkles and facial and TMJ pain.

How long does it last?

The effects of Botox lasts about 3-6 months, and once the effects are worn off the muscle returns to normal.  Once the neurotoxin is administered, the onset of effects takes about 7-14 days.
